Useful tips about heating and cooling systems

Check your furnace filter every month. Change it if needed.
To balance the heating and cooling in your home, try having your registers open or partly closed to make the temperatures more even throughout your home. It may take a day to feel any results.
In summertime, close downstairs registers. Remember, heat rises and cold sinks.
If your thermostat is equipped with an "On-Auto" switch for the fan, try turning it to "On." Running your furnace fan constantly will help to even out temperature and humidity variations in your house.
Wash the outside of your air conditioner's condensing unit at least once a year, preferably in the spring before the cooling season begins. You may want to wash it a second or more times if you use your air conditioner extensively.
Remember that carbon monoxide detectors have a finite lifespan. Replace each according to its manufacturer's guidelines so you can be sure you always have a properly-functioning carbon monoxide detector.
