Useful tips about heating and cooling systems
- Check your furnace filter every month. Change it if needed.
- To balance the heating and cooling in your home, try having your registers open or partly closed to make the temperatures more even throughout your home. It may take a day to feel any results.
- In summertime, close downstairs registers. Remember, heat rises and cold sinks.
- If your thermostat is equipped with an "On-Auto" switch for the fan, try turning it to "On." Running your furnace fan constantly will help to even out temperature and humidity variations in your house.
- Wash the outside of your air conditioner's condensing unit at least once a year, preferably in the spring before the cooling season begins. You may want to wash it a second or more times if you use your air conditioner extensively.
- Remember that carbon monoxide detectors have a finite lifespan. Replace each according to its manufacturer's guidelines so you can be sure you always have a properly-functioning carbon monoxide detector.
